In my weekly events listing, I mentioned Bike to Work Day, but I didn’t delve into one of the coolest parts. Via Alec from Walk Oakland Bike Oakland:
I’m involved in coordinating Pedal Pools this year (as WOBO has taken on coordinating duties). We’re trying to get people to ride with their Councilpeople to City Hall Thursday morning and have 7 rides (one for each district) and ALL 8 Councilpeople are riding (a rare happening).
So this Thursday is your chance, not only to hop on your bike and get free pancakes at City Hall, but to hang out with your councilmember. Thank Ignacio De La Fuente for proposing arts instead of a surface parking lot in Uptown. Ask Rebecca Kaplan how she manages to get around without a car. Tell Larry Reid that a BRT airport connector would cost so much less and be even more popular than the current proposal. Ask Jean Quan whether she’ll be running against Perata in the mayoral election…
You can find details, including times and route plans, here. Thanks to WOBO and the City for organizing this, and remember to bike down to the BART board meeting on the Oakland Airport Connector after the festivities are over.
