June Mix It Up East Bay – Focus on Oakland Arts

10 Jun

If you’ve never made it to one of the Mix It Up East Bay happy hours, June is the month to check it out. This month, they’re featuring speakers from Oaklandish, Art and Soul Festival, Oakland Art Murmur, and Old Oakland Outdoor Movies.

I haven’t made it out to a Mix It Up East Bay event in a while, but when I’ve been in the past, I’ve really enjoyed myself. It’s a great opportunity to meet people in the East Bay – though it’s geared towards young, liberal activists, don’t let this intimidate you. I’ve met many people there that are newer to politics, people who were twice my age, and I even met someone who was supporting Giuliani in the primaries.

The place it’s held at, Arsimona’s in Old Oakland is a great space. It’s huge, there are comfy places to sit, and the drinks aren’t too overpriced. It’s also just a few blocks away from the 12th Street BART station and from several major AC Transit bus lines.

So join me on Thursday evening to have a drink, meet new people, and to learn about Oakland arts.

I shit you not. I really did meet someone at I think the November Mix It Up who was really nice – we talked for a while – and towards the end of the conversation I asked who he was supporting and he said he was thinking about voting for Giuliani.

Oh right. I think I remember you telling me about that. I think you were speaking with the re-animated corpse of Joseph Stalin. He likes the way Rudy aspires to carry on ol’ Joe’s life’s work.
