Last month, I lamented about how Bike to Work day makes me feel left out and how there really should be a Bus to Work Day. My wishes have finally been granted and on Thursday, June 19th, all Bay Area transit will be free!
Well, the truth is that this free transit day had been planned long before I made that complaint, and, well, they’re not calling it Bus to Work Day. But the effect is no less rewarding and maybe if we start calling the day Bus to Work Day, we can eventually morph it into a full day annual celebration, just like Bike to Work Day.
Rides will be free all day on all Bay Area bus and light rail systems and there will be free rides until noon on BART, Caltrain, the ACE train, Capitol Corridor trains, and on the Golden Gate, Alameda, and Vallejo ferries.
So if you’re somehow still car dependent or if you’ve yet to ride an AC Transit rapid line, Thursday’s the day to hop on a bus and start reaping the benefits of car free living.
