Mystery Cafe

30 Jul

Every day on the bus, I pass an empty storefront on Telegraph that has had this sign up for several months:

Question Mark Cafe

It’s between 43rd and 44th, across the street from Aunt Mary’s Cafe. My assumption is that a cafe is in the works, but I’ve never seen any evidence of progress, until this morning. On my way to work, the door was open, and I got a quick peak at what appeared to be some construction going on inside.

Considering the usual rate of Oakland openings, maybe this cafe will be open by the end of the year. Until then, I’ll continue to enjoy their simple, enigmatic sign.

According to a guy I saw packing up a coffee machine at the Temescal Street Fair, the cafe will be serving Ritual coffee, and will be called something starting with an R that’s not “Ritual”.
